Hello Again and Comfy Kid's Pajamas

Well, this is a bit embarrassing.  I've been gone for so long, and I really have nothing to say for myself.  Time has flown by...  I've been in a refashion rut...  Work is becoming more stressful...

I guess it's just life.  I have a number of refashioning projects in the works, but I've been a little off lately and can't seem to get them going in the direction I'd like.  When I keep making minor mistakes, I know it's time to take a break and focus on something else.

To get myself back in the groove, I created a simple pair of pajamas for my son.  For part of the project, I even used a ready-made pattern, which I don't often do.  However, I found it to be encouraging that I could at least get one project completed successfully.

I started with two t-shirts that I inherited from some friends.

For the pajama shorts, I used the striped shirt and a simple pattern.

Basically, I followed the pattern instructions and added elastic around the waist.

I didn't have a pattern for the pajama t-shirt, so I tucked in the sleeves of one of my son's tees and used it to cut out a sleeveless top.

I stitched a double hem around the armholes and collar and added a striped pocket.  The pocket was attached with a zigzag stitch.

This project was fairly easy and quick.  My only challenge was sewing the very lightweight knit (striped shirt).  I found that a treble stitch worked best on the white t-shirt, while a long stitch worked better on the striped one.  A serger would have been better, but I have yet to take it out of the box.

In the end, the pajamas came out really cute.  My son was super excited - so much that he had a hard time staying still for the photo shoot.

I finally caught some "still" shots right before bed.

And here's a recap...

  1. Your son is a cutie! These looked easy. I've been sewing pillowcase dresses (for Dress a Girl Around the World) to keep my hand in before I get back to trying any patterns for myself.

    1. I think it's the red hair, Sister : ). They're pretty easy to make an comfy, but you'll need a large t-shirt.

  4. Those pjs are mighty cute! I like how you used the existing hem of the large t-shirt for the new little shirt. I have been trying to use existing features more, especially in fabrics I find hard to sew on my old, plain sewing machine (knits, for instance). Good job. And what a cute model :)

    1. Thanks, Jenny! He was so excited to sleep in them last night. I told him that they were magic, and they'd help him sleep in his bed all night. It didn't work.

It's a great idea to use existing features. I usually forget and end up sewing hems and such.

  5. Great job on those pajamas, Trish, your son looks thoroughly pleased! I know what you mean about a refashion rut...I haven't done anything since December, even though I have lots of ideas and projects I want to do, I just haven't been motivated. Good for you getting back into it. :)

    1. Hi Desarae! Thank you for your comment. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who goes through ruts. I guess we need those times to grow creatively. Although, it's tough to get motivated again. I'm finally feeling like refashioning, but it took me sewing simple little projects to want to get back into it.

I'm looking forward to seeing your next creation. : )
